A Contradiction in Terms

Seen, on the backroads of South Carolina as we were heading to Hilton Head Island for a Thanksgiving family reunion, this sign in front of a small church:

St. Mary's Baptist Church

So funny you posted this. I noticed a Babptist? church with much the same seemingly contradictory name. I have covered so much territory in the past week that I cannot remember where I saw it -- I might even have been in a post surgery haze at the time. But -- clear as day - I thought no one would believe me!

Oh, I hope Hilton Head was wonderful!

Blessings!

Well, that's very interesting. I might google the church just to see they have a website. Maybe the name has an interesting Baptist story behind it?

Just another of the many names of Holy Mary? Our Lady of the Baptists?

Ya just gotta love those deep woods southern Baptists! ~gg~ My Mom grew up one and our NC relatives are that persuasion still ~ and I betcha they don't even know why their church is called that... But it sounds pretty. Maybe the church started out Anglican or Catholic many moons ago and out of respect for the history, they kept the name. That would be like the old-school, ultra-polite Baptists I know. &:o)
