Nothing on a Friday

This past Friday we woke up to ... nothing.

Nothing planned.

No commitments. No deadlines or to-do's. Joe was off work, Timothy was out of school. There was nothing but the day ahead to do with what we wanted.

So we went to the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Columbia, South Carolina.

It was the perfect day, especially because there were no crowds; there were no school groups and no summer camps. Just us, a handful of other people, and the animals.

That never happens, but it did this past Friday.

And I got some great photos of the gorillas and one scary, Nagini-like snake.

At the zoo!

The botanical gardens were lovely.

Fountains everywhere.

Botanical Gardens

Surprises around every corner.

Father and son ... but you can't tell, can you?

The real lions were MIA, but there was this one of recycled parts.

Waiting for the sea lions.

Beauty from under the sea.

Stunning.

Nagini ... straight from Harry Potter.

I see you zoo keeper.

I want my cabbage leaves right now!

You talking to ME?

At the Zoo (Simon & Garfunkel)

Someone told me it's all happening at the zoo
I do believe it
I do believe it's true
It's a light and tumble journey
From the East Side to the park
Just a fine and fancy ramble
To the zoo
But you can take the crosstown bus
If it's raining or it's cold
And the animals will love it if you do
If you do, now
Somethin' tells me it's all happening at the zoo
I do believe it
I do believe it's true
The monkeys stand for honesty
Giraffes are insincere
And the elephants are kindly but they're dumb
Orangutans are skeptical
Of changes in their cages
And the
The monkeys stand for honesty
Giraffes are insincere
And the elephants are kindly but they're dumb
Orangutans are skeptical
Of changes in their cages
And the zookeeper is very fond of rum
Zebras are reactionaries
Antelopes are missionaries
Pigeons plot in secrecy
And hamsters turn on frequently
What a gas, you gotta come and see
At the zoo...

I love the zoo! Your's is beautiful. Our zoo is fabulous but I can't ever get anyone to go with me now - as they are too "grown up" to have fun.

It had been such a long time since we last visited! It's an entirely different experience going as adults. I enjoyed it!
