(definitely not my son)
Yesterday, when the upteenth argument ensued after telling them to put on a jacket, my middle son set me straight.
Mom. Don't you know science? Boys have these particles in our bodies that go crazy and keep us warm when we play outside.
Oh. Well then. By all means. I sent them and their particles outside . . . without a jacket.
Who am I to argue with particles?

What a concept...my boys never tried that one...but then it really gets cold here! Happy New year!! Cathy
I actually sort of believe it too. I have a thiriteen year old who thinks a sweatshirt is ample until about 5 above, Then he deigns to wear a coat....over a short sleeved t shirt.
What are you gonna do?
You'll be arguing with those particles when they come back with snotty noses...that's all I'm sayin'.
LOL! This sounds like my sons. Why do I bother buying them coats? They'll routinely go out in jeans and a thermal long sleeve tee, SANDALS and a beanie and call it good at 15 degrees. (It's the beanie that keeps'em warm I'm told.) I give up, too.
I love kids in snow suits and I think it's funny when they don't wan to put them on. (Bia! I can't get your card to show up on my laptop...my flashplayer is funky. I will try at school tomorrow. I look forward to seeing it.)
LOL! We didn't even OWN coats til the deep chill of late 2008!
I so can picture it and relate.
Happy New Year, Bia!
He has a point!
Particles? Perhaps he will have a future in politics...he's quick with an answer...
I would keep the chicken soup and tissues handy.
My son refuses to wear a coat also. I suppose that it is cumbersome. We have to enter into negotiations over coat wearing anytime he leaves the house. You are not alone in the struggle!
HAHAHAHAHA! Oh my gosh, that's awesome.
You know what? I think your son may be on to something! Since we've got one-of-each same agers, in our house I can testify she-child always shivers while he-child always seems to have heat to spare. Must be in the particles....
Happy New Year, Bia!
I give up. Found your blog as I was searching for "guidelines" so I could make a chart that I could point to and MAKE my son where a sweater with his coat when it was 8 degrees out. Perhaps my effort is useless! =) At least he hasn't used a scientific explanation ...yet.
Too funny!
I had the "wear a scarf and coat" argument with my 14 year old just yesterday.
He had to walk almost 2 miles for his dog sitting job and I figured by the time he knew he needed the jacket and scarf he'd be too far from home to just pop in and get them.
He really wanted to "debate" to get his way but I just smiled and said, "I hear you but I disagree. Even if you are right . . . think of it as an obey your mother and father moment."
Yeah, I pulled that card. hehehehe ;-)
